Work Experience

Work Experience: OVERVIEW FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

At Burton Borough we have a strong ethos to ensure our year 10 students have access to aspirational and exciting work experience. All our year 10 students take part in a one-week work placement at the end of the Summer Term.

We work closely with the Educational Business Links team at Telford & Wrekin, to ensure all our placements are health and safety checked prior to confirmation.

In the Autumn term of Year 10, students will receive an assembly with the outline for their Work Experience and all they need to know.

Here are the key points:

Date of Work Experience: Monday 6th – Friday 10th July 2026

Deadline for placement confirmation: Friday 13th February 2026

  • Placements must be arranged by the student with the employer
  • Work Experience Consent forms and Health and Safety forms must be returned to school by Friday 13th February 2026
  • All placements must have the correct Employers Liability Insurance and risk assessments in place.

Grofar Careers

Launching in September 2026 – Grofar is the platform that we use for careers in the school. It is here that work experience placements must be recorded, currently we log your placement details for you but from 2026 you will be able to manage your own placement using Grofar and logging in with your school email address.

Once the placement is confirmed with the employer, placements are logged on Grofar and Health and Safety checks are carried out by Telford and Wrekin Council.

CV and Personal Statement writing

When you approach a company for a Work Experience placement, you will usually need to include your CV and Personal Statement letter.

It can be overwhelming when writing these for the first time, we will work with you during tutor time in Year 10 to help  you write your CV and Personal Statement.

Rewarding our students and Placement Providers.

Our annual Work Experience Awards evening, which began in 2017, rewards our students and providers that go over and above our high expectations during work experience. Placement providers nominate students and students nominate providers for a variety of different awards. This has been extremely successful and has become a highlight in the calendar.
