Educational Visits

At Burton Borough School, we are committed to offering our students a broad, rich, and engaging curriculum that goes beyond the classroom

We believe that learning should be exciting and meaningful, which is why we provide a diverse program of educational visits and enrichment opportunities throughout the year.

These experiences are designed to support and enhance our students’ learning, helping to bring subjects to life and deepen understanding. More importantly, we aim to enrich the lives of our students by exposing them to new environments, cultures, and challenges.

Through these opportunities, we strive to shape confident, well-rounded young people who are ready to thrive both academically and personally. At Burton Borough School, every visit and activity play a part in preparing our students for the future.

The benefits of educational visits and outdoor education include opportunities to:

  • Enhance learning and raise achievement
  • Develop independence and resilience
  • Support, extend and enrich our curriculum
  • Face and overcome challenges
  • Raise confidence and self-belief
  • Develop important social skills
  • Enhance appreciate on the natural works and improve environmental awareness

It is a priority of the academy that all visits and off-site activities are safe, well-managed and educationally beneficial.

Each year we have a commitment to offer local, national and international trips to our students. For further information about educational visits, please contact the school.

CONSENT

For PE activities within the immediate vicinity of Newport – that take place both during and outside of the school day – we will request parental consent when your child joins BBS.

For any PE activities further afield, residential and/or overseas visits, consent will be requested for each visit.

For any other trips organised by school, parental consent will be requested as required.

EXPECTATIONS

Whilst on visits students are reminded that they are representing the academy and are expected to behave according to the academy’s behaviour policy, showing respect and courtesy to the public as well as staff. The academy reserves the right to refuse any student a place on a visit if their behaviour is judged to be inappropriate before the visit. All students will be briefed prior to any visit as to what is expected of them. Students are also reminded that they need to catch up on any schoolwork missed during the time away on a trip.

For overseas residential trips, students and parents will be required to sign a Contract where both parties agreed to the behaviour policy and any additional behaviour requirements for that specific trip.

OTHER EDUCATIONAL VISITS

For all our trips where a payment is required, we use a program called ScoPay. This system allows parents to not only pay for a trip but also give their consent for their child to attend. Regardless of whether the trip is free or at a cost, consent is given through this program. It is important to have an activated ScoPay account so that your child does not miss out as spaces as some of our enrichment and career trips are limited.

To activate your ScoPay account you will require a user account, which school can provide you with. Set up is easy and all you require is a phone, laptop or tablet and a working email address.
