Curriculum

We believe in the power of a broad and balanced curriculum to open doors, ignite passions, and provide all students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to succeed in school and in life.

Our Curriculum: Ambitious, Proud, Caring

At Burton Borough School, our curriculum reflects our core values: Ambitious, Proud, and Caring. It is carefully designed to ensure every student—regardless of background, ability, or starting point—can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

broad and balanced curriculum

We believe in the power of a broad and balanced curriculum to open doors, ignite passions, and provide all students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to succeed in school and in life. Our ambition is for every child to leave BBS as a confident, capable, and compassionate individual, equipped for the challenges of the modern world.

The key principles of our curriculum

From the moment students arrive in Key Stage 3, they are supported through a curriculum that builds strong foundations in essential subjects, while also encouraging creativity, independence, and a love of learning. As they progress into Key Stage 4, we help them make informed choices that reflect their strengths and aspirations, preparing them for both GCSE success and their next steps beyond school.

Enrichment Opportunities

Our curriculum doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Through enriching extra-curricular activities, careers education, and opportunities to explore culture, the arts, sport, and leadership, we provide students with the wider experiences and cultural capital that help shape well-rounded, ambitious young adults.

We believe in nurturing both academic excellence and personal growth—supporting every student to feel proud of who they are, what they achieve, and how they contribute to our school and wider community. With a strong focus on wellbeing and inclusion, we ensure our curriculum truly reflects our belief that every child matters, every lesson counts, and every future is worth investing in.
